On Tuesday 30th of June B1g League held a last minute SFIV tournament with some top SFIV players from Melbourne. Some others were invited but because of the last minute organization they could not make it. It was being held at RMIT in the CBD in one of their TV Studios. I managed to find the place pretty easily and was good to see some familiar faces from Australian Gamer and also Dom from Couch warriors, along with Daniel (Berzerk). And of course the main man himself Micheal Woods (Woodzy) and his crew who made all this possible. Some of the players who came along were... ToXY Aesop Chozo (Bird) Nickerz H (Carnage) Naruga Exis And I made up the 8th place. There were 2 main areas... The interview area and the gaming area. The interview area is where Dom and Dan spent most of their time commentating on the matches and interviewing the winner of each match. And I must say for being their first time at this sort of thing did a great job and mainly in just one take to their credit. Heres some behind the scenes pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I guess this is where some big tournaments take place. ![]() Liam (Sniper from AG) too cool for the camera. =P ![]() ![]() Woodzy calling the shots. ![]() Dom getting ready to commentate. ![]() Bird and ToXY have a chat. ![]() Liam helping set up the screen. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Bird v ToXY in some HDR with Aesop, Liam, Dan and Nickerz looking on. After the initial intro it was onto the games. First match: Toxy (SA) v Exis (BL) After a few practice runs, it was time to get serious. The practice runs were real good for Exis who got better and better with every match. I believe Exis won his first match, but ToXY came back to win the next 2 in the series to win it in some impressive matches. ToXY wins 2-1 Second match: Nickerz (ZA) v WeaponX (AK) (me) Having been stupid and not played at least had some practice runs on the set up it took me a while to adjust, but by then Nickerz had already smashed me in the first game. 2nd game was a little better but still messed up EXeCution and hit Half circle fireball instead of lk hurricane and getting caught by Nickerz gief cause of it. I maned to win one round though, but he won the series. Nickerz wins 2-0 Third match: H (BA) v Aesop (CH) Aesop was hungry, tired and horny so he had some trouble against H, who was the opposite and was on fire. While Aesop came close to winning a few rounds H blocker said No! and went through to the next round. H wins 2-0 Fourth match: Bird (BL) v Naruga (VI) Easily the series of the day, some awesome plays during the matches but Naruga uses his EXperienCe to sneak away with the win which came to the last round, of the last match. Both missing some links and combos that could have ended it earlier, not sure if it was the screen, the early morning play, or just nerves, but made for EXCiting viewing. Naruga wins 2-1 On to the Semis! Semi Final one: Toxy v Nickerz Nickerz did very well for a Gief against a Sagat. I'm having trouble remember if he won a game but I know he took a few rounds, I'll have to go back and watch it. But with ToXY having not lost to a Gief this year he wasn't going to make this his first. Taking the series and making it to the final. Semi Final two: Naruga (VI, RY) v H (BA) H came out and took it to Naruga controlling the match well, well enough to win the first game and make Naruga switch to Ryu. I think Naruga won the 2nd after switching to Ryu, but H stuck with Boxer and did enough to win the series and put himself in the final. ![]() ![]() H getting interviewed after his win. Finals time! Final Match: ToXY (SA) v H (BA) Another top match between 2 friends who have played each other many times before this, so they know who the other plays. Even though H had as much chance of winning as ToXY, ToXY just knew H and the match up better taking another title to put on his resume. ![]() H v ToXY Mortal Kombat Style. Congrats to Toxy on the win, even though it was just an EXibition the competition was still right up there but he managed to win another tourney. Also congrats to H for also making it to the final with his solid wall Boxer taking out some major names on the way to the final. And well done to everyone else who made it on such short notice and put on a great show. Thanks again to Woodzy and b1g league who giving us this chance and finally taking SFIV onto the BL roster, hopefully we will see more SFIV action in BL. And Thanks again and nice work to Dom and Dan for sparing the time to commentate for us, and was a pleasure to return the favour when you two went at it at the end. ![]() Dom and Dan going at it. And of course the camera crew who we couldn't have done it and shown everyone without. Looking forward to more events like this, and hopefully this will help both BL and SFIV grow in Australia.
